13.03 Huck stops Richards

March 13, Berlin Germany:
WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck retained the title at an almost packed Max Schmeling Hall with an easy third round stoppage of Adam Richards. The fight was stopped 2.30 with Richards badly hurt after a right upercut followed by a straight right. Just as referee Mark Nelson stepped in Richards went down. Adam was floored earlier in the round as well and there was big cut on his scalp. Huck had won the first two on all scorcards. He isn´t pretty to watch but gets the job done, strong, a solid puncher and in exellent condition.
Russian heavy Alexander Povetkin stopped Javier Mora at 0.50 of the fifth of a scheduled non-title ten rounder. Mora was wideopen for Alexander´s powerful left hook and was down almost at once in the first. He somehow survived and made it through the round. It was the same thing in the second but by now Povetkin either paced himself or punched himself out and Mora was able to comeback and his moments in the fourth with crude, heavy punches. In the fifth Povetkin opened up again and Mora, cut, swollen and worn down, went down again and it was stopped. Next up for Povetkin is Wladimir Klitschko.
Yoan Pablo Hernandez retained the IBF I/C cruiser title with a one-sided points win over Cesar David Crenz. All judges had it 120-108 and Crenz, who appeared to have injured his right shoulder seemed content to survived – which he did.
Cruiser Alexander Frenkel outscored Michael Simms over very good rounds of boxing where both showed a lot of skills. Frenkel was too strong though and was a deserved winner even if the numbers – 79-73 twice and 79-75, looked too wide.
Bulgarian heavy Kubrat Pulev impressed again in taking out Danny Batchelder with a single – a left upercut out of nowhere – punch at 0.45 of the second. Pulev is now 7-0 and again: he is one to watch!
Lightheavy Artur Hein knocked out Eric Howard with a left hook to the body in the eighth and final round. Howard showed a lot of heart but lost every round.
Big heavy Jens Krull lost a majority decision to Samir Kurtagic – it was wrongly announced as draw but Kurtagic won after six rounds of more wrestling than boxing.
Danish middle Patrick Nielsen outscored Alessandro Segurini over four. Nielsen shows promise but is also very green and there´s a long way to go.
News: Allan Vester is injured and the fight against Hector Camacho that was set for March 26 in Kjellerup, Denmark, is off. V
