October 10, Rostock, Germany:
Universum´s Long Night of boxing of boxing began at 7 PM and was over at about 1.45 am when referee Juergen Langos finally called off the Dennis Boytsov against Jason Gavern fight with the outclassed American taking the overall sixth count – four knockdowns and two standing eight counts, – at 2.18 of the seventh in a scheduled ten-rounder. Gavern was at the time of the stoppage behind on scores of 60-50, 60-51 and 60-51 but had made himself popular with the crowd with his showboating and guts. Boytsov took his time, picked his shots and outclassed his opponent for his 26th straight win.
Susi Kentikian defended the WIBF and WBA female fly titles and added the vacant WBO belt to her collection with a unanimous decision over Julia Sahin. It was scored 98-92, 96-94 and 97-93.
Off TV featherweight Marcel Meyerdiecks won a close majority decision over Hungarian Zsolt Nagy after eight.
Cruiser Rakhim Chakiev turned pro and knocked out Tayar Mehmed in the seconc.
In the main bout Ina Menzer retained the WBC and WIBF female featherweight titles and won the vacant WBO title with a close nod over Esther Schouten. It was scored 96-94 on two cards and 95-95 on the third.
Sebastian Koeber remained interim German heavyweight champ with a – you got it – close, split decision over Markus Tomala. It was scored 97-94 and 96-94 for Koeber and 96-94 for Tomala. There wasn´t much action with both stiff, tense and waiting for the other to open up.
Heavyweight Manuel Charr decisioned Sherman “the Tank” Williams on scores of 98-94, 97-93 and 99-91 after ten. Williams started well but faded down the stretch.
Italian welter Phil Lo Greco won over Estonian Albert Starikov fair enough but the scoring at 80-70, 77-74 and 79-71 looked well out of line. Starikov was down in the third and had a point deducted in the eighth and final round and that made the difference.
