Former French lightweight champion Andre Holyk have passed away at the age of 60 in his hometown of Lyon, France reports Le Progres.
Holyk became military champ before turning pro in 1972. Le Progres describes Andre as a giant on the local scene and he won the national title the first time in 75 and then went on to challenge for the European title four times but always came up short. The list of opponents he fought is quite impressive. He beat future world champ Jim Watt and also fought Fernand Roelands, Charlie Nash, Jo Kimpuani, Patrizio Oliva and Jorgen Hansen. He lost a return a fight to Watt and retired in 1982 with a record of 38-13-6.
