It´s not offically confirmed but figosport.de listened to a Polish TV channel Saturday night when WBC cruiser king Krzystof Wlodarczyk outscored Jason Robinson. According to the network the first matchups in the Super Six Tournament at cruiser will feature Marco Huck, WBO champ, against Steve Herelius, the WBA interim ruler. This is a fight that Sauerland Event have said will go ahead December 4 or 18. In another matchup, also in December, Steve Cunningham, IBF king will take on hard punching Russian Denis Lebedev, mandatory challenger for Huck. In January 2011 WBC champ Krzysztof Wlodarzcyk will be in against Yoan Pablo Hernandez. Again, this is not contirmed. Hernandez was supposed to have fought stablemate Enad Licina in a final eliminator for IBF but that is if the Polish network is right scrapped.
Sauerland Event again join forces with P 3 Boxing in Finland for a big show with Carl Froch taking on Arthur Abraham at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki November 27 in the third round of the Super Six Tournament. Local fans will also be happy to see EU heavyweight champ Robert Helenius making the first defence of the title. EU jr welter ruler Ville Piispanen is also likely to be featured on the show.
Max Schmeling – the movie - premieres in Berlin October 7. Henry Maske plays the former heavyweight champion of the World while Yoan Pablo Hernandez acts as Joe Louis. The list goes on with the likes of Arthur Abraham, Enad Licina (as Jack Sharkey) and Alexander Frenkel appearing – all can box, but can they act?
EBU heavy champ Aleksandre Dimitrenko now have Pole Albert Sosnowski has mandatory challenger. The EBU have set October 28 as deadline for purse offers or agreement.
A small piece of boxing history was created in Sweden this past weekend when the first fights over longer distance than the stipulated 12 minutes since December of 1969 - with special permission from the Martial Arts Delegation – took place in Karlstad. At heavyweight Andreas Gustavsson outpointed Jakov Gospic while Danish veteran Allan Vester retired with a back injury against Cliff Soukka in a jr middle fight. There´s now hope for more and next up could be a world title fight of some kind for female lightweight Frida Wallberg November 27 in Stockholm. This fight would then be over ten two minute rounds. It´s however still a long way to go before Sweden have professional boxing as we know it as ten ounce amateur gloves are worn in all weight divisions.
