The champ comes home: WBO supermiddle king Robert Stieglitz will make his first public appearance as champ on Monday August 31 in his hometown Schierke where he will sign the “Golden Book”. Stieglitz always showed talent but somehow seemed to fail to make it at the highest level. Against Karoly Balzsay it seemed as if he again would fail but showing a big heart he broke through for an upset tko win. Stieglitz is promoted by SES who is very close with Universum and defence against a fighter that stable seems like a likely option for the near future.
IBF I/C jr welter champ Sergey Fedchenko defends the title September 17 in Dnepropetrovsk with K 2 East promoting. Welter Yuriy Nuzhnenko, cruiser Vitaly Rusal and jr welter Dmitrij Nikulin are also on the bill. All three are good enough to headline in their own names which underlines the strength of Ukrainain boxing and of K 2 East, which is co-owned by the Klitschko brothers.
Former WBO heavyweight champ Ray Mercer, 48, is for the third time on for a fight in Sweden. This time Mercer steps in for the injured Michael Lindblad and take on Andreas Gustavsson, 2-0, September 4 in Karlstad. In his previous Karlstad appearances Mercer knocked out Lindblad in 2007 and outscored Dutchman Richel Hersisia over six last year.
Maria Linderg, and Sarah Davies clash for the vacant WIBF middleweight title September 19 in Ruehlsheim. Word is that the two will fight a rematch at jr middle in the UK in October for another title. However, Lindberg´s well documented head injury makes it very unlikely that she will be get a permission to fight by the BBBoC.
Pedro “La Estrella” Carrion continues his procareer in Germany and is next featured on the undercard to Jessica Balougun vs Olga Bojare September 5 in Aachen. The now 39-year old Carrion, from Cuba, was a world class boxer at superheavy as an amateur but as a pro he hasn´t really shown much. Carrion returned to action last weekend after almost two years out and knocked out Czech Martin Stensky in the first.
