It´s on: after some apparently tough and difficult negotiations it´s now a fact that WBA standard middleweight champ Gennadyi Golovkin will defend the title October 15 in Almaty, Kazachstan, against LaJuan Simon. The deal was almost done, then it seemed to be off but is now on again with Delta Box Promotion staging the event that will feature cruiser Isa Akberbaev and Zapir Rasulov on the undercard. It will be televised live in Kazachstan, Russia and Ukraine.
Team Golovkin are also pressuring the WBA for a status as mandatory challenger for “superchamp” Felix Sturm and have also made it public that negotiations for a “unification” fight against interim ruler Hassan N´Dam are off – a move that has to do with the promotional difficulties that appears to surround N´Dam.
