IBF welter champ Jan Zaveck will defend the title April 9 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with SES promoting against an opponent to be announced. Zaveck won the title in December in South Africa with an upset win over Isaac Hlatswayo. Zaveck, 28-1-0-1 and for good reasons nicknamed “mr Simpatico”, is a superstar at home – and he´s the first ever Slovenian world champ.
 
WBA “standard” supermiddle champ Dimitri Sartison will reportedly defend the title May 29 in Budapest against unbeaten Frenchman Jean Paul Mendy. Mendy have a tuneup scheduled for March 20.
 
Norwegian heavyweight giant Arild “the Hulk” Haugen moved to 2-0 with an easy first round stoppage of Sejfula Berisa Friday night in Murcia, Spain. Haugen gets big headlines at home and is an established star in strongman competitions.
 
Danish heavy Brian Nielsen will begin training for a comeback after eight years out following a medical checkup in Berlin. His bad knee will need surgery though and Brian tells Ekstrabladet it might be until the end of the year before he can fight again.
 
EBU middle champ Matthew Macklin will according to the EBU defend the title against Khoren Gevor, under contract with Universum but involved in a promotional dispute that as far as I know is not settled yet. Macklin vs Gevor – if on – goes ahead April 16 in Birmingham.

EE-EU heavyweight champ Maxim Maslov will make a voluntary defence of the title March 20 in Narva, Estonia. Maslov is fighting Yaroslav Zavorotny.
 
Markus Lammi, founder and President, of the Baltic Boxing Union, have left the organisation and is replaced by Mikko Foudilainen. Lammi will remain in boxing though and have joined Caramelito Promotions and will work with Petro Koskemies as matchmaker and co-promoter.
