March 26, Hamburg, Germany:
EBU heavy champ Aleksandre Dimitrenko retained the title with a dramatic one punch knockout in the 12th and final round of a very exciting fight against Polish challenger Albert Sosnowski at the packed Universum gym. Dimitrenko caught Sosnowski with a right upercut and Albert went down and out was down for several minutes before getting up and he could leave the ring on his own but looked a bit dizzy.
It was a hardfought, messy and somewhat controversial fight where Dimitrenko dominated when he could keep the shorter Sosnowski at bay but whenever the Pole got close the champion choose to hold. Albert then tried to fight his was free and the two ended up wrestling on the inside with both on the floor several times. In the eleventh Dimitrenko´s constant holding cost him a point. Going into the last I was told the scoring was 106-102 and 105-104 for Dimitrenko and 105-104 for Sosnowski – with the point deduction included.
Either way both came out for last deadtired but knowing they had to give it all they had and then Dimitrenko´s upercut found the target ending the fight at 1.30.
In other action WBO, WBA and WIBF female fly champ Susi Kentikian retained the title with a unanimous decision over Ana Arranzola. It was scored 97-92, 99-90 and 98-92. Arranzola had a point deducted for holding and hitting in the sixth.
Cruiser Rakhkim Chakiev floored Alex Mogylewski twice for a first round stoppage and featherweight Marcel Meyerdiecks outscored Andrej Kostin over eight.
Several current and former Universum fighters were on hand for what might the last show in this great venue.
