Hardpunching former EBU welter champ “Sugar” Jackson Osei Bonsu takes on Croatian Zoran Cvek January 28 in St Truiden, Belgium. If all goes well Jackson will fight a higher rated opponent in March in Gent. Bonsu is now fighting at jr middle and is looking to get back into the title picture at EBU level.
The Nordic Nightmare, Robert Helenius underwent surgery on his injured shoulder in Heidelberg yesterday and all went well. Robert told Finnish journalist Juhani Groenberg he will be back after the summer. The comeback will be minus the EBU title and Robert will probably need a tuneup or two before being moved towards a major titleshot again.
WBA regular champ at supermiddle Karoly Balzsay have become a forgotten man in the division but is now said to be back after a back injury. Balzsay is also in negotiations with Universum about his contract. Karoly stepped in for Dimitri Sartison on short notice to win the regular crown on a decison over Stas Kashtanov last year. The winner in this fight was by agreement to make his first defence against Sartison but new Universum boss Waldemar Kluch have reportedly nixed all internal matchups.
There aren´t many big female fights regardless of weight division but come March in Denmark Sauerland´s First Lady, Cecilia Braekhus, WBA; WBO and WBC female welter champ, will take on Ann Sophie Mathis from France. The fight is a done deal at both ends with date to be announced. Mathis comes in fresh of a stoppage win over Holly Holm – and a rematch with Holm might come in June providing of course that Ann Sophie beats Braekhus.
Karama Nyilawila, inactive since winning the title against Kreshniq Quato 2010, have been stripped of the WBFed middleweight title. Nyilawila was booked to defend the title against Cagri Ermis February 11 in Hamburg. Ermis will now instead take on Portugese Vitor Sa on this E C promotion.
Highly ranked cruiser Troy Ross have signed a promotional contract with Sauerland and fights on the Hernandez vs Cunningham bill in Frankfurt / Main February 4. Ross take on Brit Billy Boyle and is expected to win relatively easy.
