French lightheavy Tony Averlant, 18-7-2, has had surgery to his right hand and will be out of action for three months. Averlant lost a split duke to then EBU champ Eduard Gutknecht in March of last year after a fight most thought he had won but was already then suffering from pain in the hand but the problem couldn´t be diagnosed.

Tony returned late last year to outscore Lubo Hantak but then suffered an upset loss to Mounir Toumi in a fight for the WBFed I/C title. It was however not discovered until recently that Averlant had been fighting with a fracture in his right hand for a long time – a problem that now appears to be cured and Tony is eager to return to the ring.

French lightheavies Nadjib Mohammedi, 28-3, and Hakim Chioui, 25-2-1, clash for the vacant WBA Continental title April 20 in Les Pennes Mirabeaux.

Mohammedi holds the WBFed world title but previously lost to WBO king Nathan Cleverly while Chioui was stopped against Jonathan Profichet in an attempt to win the WBO euro title – and Profichet is also responsible for the second loss on Hakim´s ledger.

This fight is the first for this new WBA subtitle although Willie Casey W12-U Jason Booth also was for the continental title but it was then billed as for the WBA Euro title. The WBA later opted for a less confrontational line against the EBU and we got the Continental bill instead.
