Former world title challenger and EBU champ Giulio Rinaldi have passed away at the age of 76 in Anzio, Italy.
Rinaldo represented Italy in the 1956 Olympics fighting at middleweight losing on a walk over in the quarterfinals to future gold medal winner Gennady Chatkov from the USSR when he failed to make weight.
In 1957 Rinaldo turned pro and in 1960 upset reigning world lightheavy champ Archie Moore in a non-title fight in Rome. Moore won the rematch in New York with the title on the line.
Rinaldo remained a force at lightheavy and won the European title in 1963 but lost the title in 1964 to Gustav Scholz. He won the EBU belt a second time as well and fought a number of tough fights on the road in Europe.Rinaldo retired in 1970 with a record of 44-16-5.
