18.07: Euro News

German heavy Aleksander Dimitrenko have today relinquished the position as mandatory challenger for EBU champ Kubrat Pulev and thus there were no purse bids today at noon in Rome.

Pulev will now fight the highest available contender. “The Cobra” previously knocked out Dimitrenko and then in September of last year did the same to Alexander Ustinov and things looked up and away. A final IBF eliminator was ahead but things dragged out and when Pulev finally had a co-challenger in Tyson Fury he withdrew. The fight against Fury was also a mandatory defence of the EBU title and this is where Dimitrenko entered the picture – and is now out of it.

Spanish jr middle veteran Ruben Varon, EBU mandatory challenger at his weight, have today been voted out by the EBU council following his loss to trial Rafael Chiruta this weekend. That fight was as previously reported fought at middleweight and thus the loss doesn´t remove a fighter automatically from his position at a lower weight.

However, as the EBU point out it was a bad loss against a fighter with a poor recored.

EBU jr middle champ Sergey Rabchenko will now have to fight someone else and also end up as a loser as he would have gotten the lion´s share of the 91,000,00 Euro that Rimer Boxe won the purse bids with.

EU middleweight champ Marcos Nader will now defend the title September 14 in Stuttgart on the big Sauerland show topped by the rematch between WBO king Marco Huck and Firat Arslan.

Nader was first set to defend the title August 31 in Vienna but is now moved.

Who Nader is fighting isn´t announced yet.

Silvio Olteanu have relinquished the EBU flyweight title probably to concentrate on a shot at the IBF title but it also appears that a third fight against mandatory challenger Valery Yanchy, like Olteanu based in Spain, was tough to market.

Yanchy will now face Italian veteran Andrea Sarritzu, who appears to have been around forever but it is only for the past 15 years.

The EBU have set July 31 as date for purse bids.
