Russian heavyweight Aleksander Povetkin, 21-0 and # 2 with the WBA, is ready to fight again after his handinjury but is kept waiting. He is waiting for a world title shot. Now, anyone who looks around the heavyweight scene knows that there is no title where the champions, Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye are ready to defend against Povetkin.
Instead it´s a “new” title that Povetkin is waiting for: the WBA standard title, which becomes available once WBA have made Haye superchamp.
This move would free Haye from mandatory defence against Ruslan Chagaev and clear the way to a showdown against one of the Klitschko brothers while Chagaev vs Povetkin would be an attractive matchup in either Russia or Germany.
