Dakota Stone pratar i USA om att för andra gången möta Maria Lindberg “in Sweden”. I Sverige skriver Kvällsposten att Lindberg kommer att möta Stone på Malta senare i höst – något som även boxrec har uppgifter på.
Någon officiellt bekräftelse finns dock inte och att det nystartade maltesiska boxningsförbundet skulle ge Lindberg till stånd att boxas med tanke på avstängningen från Sverige och hennes medicinska historia låter inte troligt.
Proffsboxning på Malta har aldrig varit officiellt sanktionerad men man hade viss aktivitet på 70-talet – något som dock upphörde efter ett dödsfall och att börja med att riskera något liknande verkar inte särskilt genomtänkt.

Ms Lindberg was seriously injured in a boxing fight in Finland in 1999 and suffered bleedings to the brain among other things. The injury was carefully examined by physicians, who unanimously found that Ms Lindberg not any further could be exposed to violence to the head without serious health risks and outmost risk for her life. The main injury consisted of a subdural hematoma, a bleeding between the brains thick membrane (Dura mater) and the Arachnoid mater. Subdural hematoma is one of the most serious brain damages in boxing and the largest part of the death events that has struck boxers have been an effect of subdural hematoma.
Ms Lindberg, that in 1999 was an amateur boxer in Sweden, was therefore deprived of her license by the Swedish Boxing Federation’s board during my supervision (I was the President of the Swedish Boxing Federation 1978-2005).
In 2008 Ms Lindberg applied for a boxing license to the Swedish Boxing Federation’s Pro Boxing Commission, where I am the President, and I then once again submitted Ms Lindberg’s case for evaluation by neurological experts, who explained the following:
The earlier bleeding in the brain has resulted in a burst blood vessel. Whether the injury will be fully healed or not cannot be discovered by CAT Scan nor by MRA. A bleeding increases the risk with approximately 60 times for serious dementia in the future or death at further strokes after such an injury.
