16.10 Klitschko retains title

October 16, Hamburg, Germany:

WBC heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko retained the title with a one-sided win over Shannon Briggs at a packed O 2 World Arena (formerly Color Line Arena). Briggs lasted the distance but soaked up a one-sided beating in a fight that could well have been stopped after the seventh when Briggs was hurt and staggered back to his corner. The judges had hist 40-35 after four, 80-71 twice and 80-72 after eight and at the end 120-107 twice and 120-108. There were no knockdowns and Klitschko was careful, overly careful,  kept a steady pace and seldom followed up on his powerful right that time and time again caught Briggs over his laszy left. Shannon had talked the talk before the fight and walked the walk too but failed to to do anything offensively.

The undercard was as always when K 2 promotes rather weak. Cruiser Ola Afolabi got a solid workout from tough and durable journeyman Sandro Siproshvili but won clearly on points after ten.

Big Alexander Ustinov, 140,0, kg, pushed aside Oeczan Cetinkaya in two one-sided rounds. Cetinkaya was floored three times in the first and twice more in the second.

Jr middle Zaurbek Baysangurov got a tko win when Eugene Monteiro retired after the third with a claimed hand injury.

Cruiser Nenad Borovcanin stopped Patrick Berger in the first and is now an inflated 27-ß.

Renowned trainer Fritz Sdunek was back in action and worked the corners of Afolabi and Borovcanin and of course Klitschko.
