12.10 Helenius vs Brewster January 30

On January 30 in Neubrandenburg Sauerland Event promotes as previously reported a show headlined by IBF middleweight champ Sebastian Sylvester. Against who isn´t confirmed yet even though Spanish sources point toward Pablo Navascues.

The undercard features at least one possibly two interesting heavyweight fights. In the one that´s confirmed ”The Nordic Nightmare”, Robert Helenius, 10-0, is matched against ex-WBO champ Lamon Brewster. Brewster is vastly more experienced and while he have scored some exciting wins in his career he´s mainly known for an unbelievable ability to absorb punishment.

He signed with Sauerland in an attempt to get his career going again and looked rusty but dangerous in outpointing Michael Sprott but then lost to Gbenga Oloukun in a huge upset and is nearing the end especially in view of that Oloukun lost two fights back to back to two other Sauerland fighters since beating Brewster. Lamon needs not just a win but a convincing win to have a career ahead of him.

Helenius on his side comes off impressive stoppage wins against Scott Gammer and Taras Bidenko and should in case off a win be ready for his big breakthrough in 2010. He´s a big man, well schooled, decent puncher, looks a bit lethargic but have developed steadily since turning pro. Expect Brewster to go all out and is in with a puncher´s chance but Helenius should be too sharp for him.

Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, 4-0, got a surprisingly tough fight against experienced American Zach Page last time out and got a good learning fight. He have accepted to face Oleg Platov, 28-1-0-1, next.

Platov have on his side not said yes yet but is despite a glossly looking record in need of a good, convincing win. 2009 was spent waiting for a fight against Cengiz Koc that never materialized in what would have been an internal eliminator.

Pulev is 28 going on 29 and spent many years in the Bulgarian military and was unable to turn pro until now. He have the looks of a genuine star but may have left it too late. The plan from Sauerland is to move Kubrat fast, as fast as they did with Sven Ottke but heavyweight boxing differs from other weight divisions and Pulev may need more time.

Platov can test Kubrat but isn´t likely to hold up when Pulev gets going.
