Sauerland finally ended weeks of rumors and today officially cancelled Robert Stieglitz´ defence of the WBO supermiddle title against Mikkel Kessler that was set for April 14 at Parken in Copenhagen. The fight was first scheduled for November 5 but Kessler had to withdraw due to a broken finger. It is now claimed that the same injury is still causing problems for the Viking Warrior.Stieglitz will now instead defend the title against Brit George Groves and SES won today purse bids for the right to stage the fight that will go ahead in Germany with date and site to be announced. As for Kessler, he´s officially now set to return May 19 in Copenhagen with opponent to be announced. Kalle Sauerland have told Ekstrabladet that a move up to lightheavy is a possibility where – again according to Sauerland – fighting Tavoris Cloud for the IBF title would be a fight they like to make already for the May 19 show.Kessler was last seen in June of last year where he stopped overmatched Frenchman Mehdi Bouadla and his last major fight date back to the spring of 2010 when he beat Carl Froch and then had to pull out of the Super Six Tournament due to eye problems.
