Matt Godfrey is off the eliminator for the WBC cruiserweight title scheduled for March 6 in Cuxhaven against Herbie Hide due to a handinjury. The show still go ahead with Hide relegated to a prelim fight. Headlining now is welter Selcuk Aydin, who will defend the WBC Int´l title against Luis Hernandez from Ecuador but fighting out of New York.
The program for the second Grand Tournoi show of 2009 have now been announced by AMI Production. In the tournament itself Jimmy Colas face Medhi Nekaies and Sebastian Spengler is in against Damien Bertu. The weights can range between 66-70 kg so it´s more a jr middle title than welter. Headlining are cruisers Jean Marc Monrose and Steve Herelius. The event go ahead March 5.
The WBO have started a new title: the WBO European title and as indicated it´s for the European market. Former WBO feather champ Istvan “Ko-Ko” Kovacs heads the organisation that will operate under the same rules as for the other WBO regional titles. Superbantams Zsolt Bedak and Franklin Theran will square off March 7 in Dresden in a fight for the inaugural belt. Check out wbo-europe.com for more info.
K 2 East stage a show called “Heavyweight Attack” February 26 in Kiev with big heavy Alexander Ustinov headlining going for the vacant EBA heavyweight title. Welter Valery Brazhnik along with K 2 East´s up and coming prospects are also on the bill.
BBU heavy champ Juho Haapoja defends the title February 21 in Vasa, Finland, against Estonian Valery Semishkur. Haapoja, 7-2-1, also holds the national title.
