10.01 Stieglitz stops Acosta

January 9, Magdeburg, Germany:
WBO supermiddle champ Robert Stieglitz retained the title with a fifth round stoppage of Argenentinian Ruben Eduardo Acosta. Acosta, a late sub for Edison Miranda, came out fast and seemed to surprise the champion with some wild hooks. Stieglitz, the much better boxer, grabbed command in the second and floored the challenger in the third with a left hook. Acosta was outboxed and knocked down again early in the fifth by a right hook to the body. Stieglitz followed up well and forced a stoppage at 1.48 of the round. It was scored 39-36 Stieglitz on all cards after four.
Heavyweight Manuel Charr wore down Owen Beck for a stoppage win at 2.14 of the tenth. Beck did will in the early rounds and seemed to take over midway but then faded badly and took a beating in the last few rounds and it could well have been stopped sooner. Charr was well ahead on points going into the last.
WIBF, WBC and WBO featherweight champ Ina Menzer stopped Ramona Kuehne at 0.57 of the sixth when a right hand opened a nasty cut over the left eye of Ramona. -It´s bad and it´s deep, said the ringside physician, one can see the bone.
All three judges had it 48-47 for Menzer after five but all got there differently. Kuehne did better than expected and Menzer also had problems with a badly swollen left eye that may have hampered her vision.
Jr middle prospect “Golden” Jack Culcay knocked out Lithuanian Dmitrijius Sidorovicius in the first.
Russian heavy Dennis Boytsov floored Kevin Montiy once in the first and twice in the second for a stoppage at 1.56 of the second.
American journeyman Zach Page won a clear win over 19-0 heavyweight Sebastian Koeber in what on paper was a big upset. Koeber, a solid puncher, have however after a promising start developed into a stiff, gunshy fighter and Page took him to school. A bad cut over the left of Koeber didn´t help either. It was scored 58-56, 59-56 and 57-57 – but it was wider than that.
Middleweight Khoren Gevor outscored Brazilian Jeferson Luis Gonzalo over ten. Gonzalo was outboxed most of the way but kept coming and made Gevor work hard for his win. It was scored 99-91, 98-94 and 96-94.
News: WBO lightheavy champ Juergen Braehmer spent Friday in court in Schwerin charged with assault. The prosecutor wants Braehmer to go to jail for 18 months for beating up a woman in a bar in Schwerin last year. Braehmer´s defence pleaded innocent and  played Bob Dylan´s song “Hurricane” for the court and with defence like that one don´t need a prosecutor. The court will hand out its verdict on Tuesday of next week.
French supermiddle Medhi Bouadla, who just pulled out of a fight for the EU title against Lolenga Mock, will face Brazilian Josival Lima Texeira for the IBF Int´l title January 22 in Aulnay-sous-Bois. His management hopes to get Bouadla in the IBF ratings and a shot at IBF champ Lucian Buté. Also on the bill are jr middle Christophe Canclaux and middleweight Julien Sainte Marie.
