OPI 2000 won the purse bids yesterday in Rome with a bid for the 63.717,00 Euro for the right to stage fight for the vacant EBU supermiddleweight title between Mohamed Ali Ndiaye and Christophe Rebrasse. French Cristophe Tiozzo Promotion, on this occasion represented by Tarik Saadi, finished second with a bid for 51.310,00 Euro.
Rebrasse, 20-2-3, and Ndiaye, 23-1-1, drew in their first fight in Italy in June in a fight where most observers agreed with Finnish judge Anssi Perajoki, who scored the fight 118-111 for Rebrasse.
Date and site is to be announced.
The farewell fight for Spanish veteran middleweight contender Jorge Sendra that was set for June 29 never came off. Sendra´s opponent had problems with his license and instead Jorge boxed an exhibition with teammate Javi Garcia Roche and is now 100% retired.
Russian lightheavy Igor Michalkin outscored WBO I/C champ Doudou Ngumbu Friday night in Thiais, France. Michalkin won a split decision on scores of 116-112 and 115-113 with a vote for Ngumbu at 115-114. The fight was even after six but Michalkin was the stronger man down the stretch. Working his corner was trainer Bulent Baser, promoter Erol Ceylan and IBF # 1 ranked cruiser Aleksander Alekseev.
SES have added heavyweight Michael Wallisch, 9-0, to the July 13 show in Dresden. Wallisch, who´s been sidelined for some time due to a contractual dispute, will take on Alexander Kahl, 18-9-1, with the German title – BDB version that is – at stake. SES´ American supermiddle Dario Bredicean, 3-0, is on the bill.
