09.04 Evil Fight Night in Hamburg

April 9, Hamburg, Germany:
EC Box Promotion, headed by Erol Ceylan, staged a big show tonight at the Sporthalle in Hamburg. Polish lightheavy Gregor Soszynski won the WBC Mediterranean title with a close, majority decision over defending champion Geard Ajetovic from Serbia. It could have gone either way with Sozynski´s higher workrate against Ajetovic´s fewer but harder punches. It was scored 115-114, 116-113 and 114-114 in a tactical no-knockdown little drama affair.
Cruiser Aleksander Alexeev, formerly with Universum but now with EC, stopped American DeAndrey Abron in the sixth of a scheduled eight-rounder. Alexeev took his time but handed out a solid beating and showed he has plenty left despite setbacks like the loss to Denis Lebedev last time out.
Local hero Gokalp Ozekler won the Int´l German middleweight title with a first round stoppage of Pietro D´Alessio. Ozekler´s right hook found D´Alessio´s temple right from the start and after two knockdown´s Pietro´s corner retired their man. It was scheduled for ten.
Fight of the night was Cagri Ermis´ close win over Rafael Bejarano in a middleweight contest over eight rounds. Bejarano was the superior boxer but Ermis kept coming despite a damaged right hand. It was scored 78-76, 77-76 and 77-77.
Serbian heavy Jovo Pudar won the PABA title with controversial stoppage of Serdar Uysal. Pudar landed low with heavy punches a few times and Uysal played it out big time. However, it was referee Jan Telek who stole the scene when he counted over Uysal then deducted a point from Pudar – a move directly from amateur boxing. Eventually Uysal´s corner threw in the towel with Serdar very upset and wanting a rematch on the spot while Pudar played it cool insisting his punches were legitimate.
Cruiser Lukas Schulz, formerly with Sauerland, outscored Lithuanian Remgijus Ziausys over six and showed good boxing skills but little power against a tough opponent.
EC are back June 11 with a big show in Luebeck. The show was billed as Evil Fight Night and was of course sponsored by the energy drink with the same name.
