IBF supermiddle champ Lucian Bute will defend the title July 9 in Bucharest, Romania, July 9.
There´s no official confirmation but Romanian media writes that the opponent will be French veteran Jean Paul Mendy, 29-0-1 in a career that began back in 2000.
Mendy´s manager Gabriel Gaide only commented that Jean Paul will “fight soon”.
Jean Paul Mendy have plugged away for a long time without getting the big breaks, he´s held the French title and fought a draw against Anthony Hanshaw in 2007 in a fight for the IBO bauble. In July of last year Mendy was floored and then knocked out cold while on the canvas against Sakio Bika and subsequently won on a disqualification. This was a IBF eliminator
