01.06 Tabaghua update

When Swedish welter Karlo Tabaghua, 16-3, beat former EBU king Jackson Osei Bonsu April 1 last year it was regarded as a major upset and it was expected that the win would give Tabaghua his big break after fighting most of his career on the road losing to the likes of Piotr Wilczewski in a fight made at supermiddle, Stefan Stevanovic and Daniel Urbanski.

For a while things looked just fine with a title fight against Anton Novikov set for May 28 in Moscow. However, then Novikov was injured, the fight postponed and other fights fell through for one reason or another – and then Karlo was injured and have thus been out of the ring for a over a year now.

Boxing inside the ropes is one thing and another outside and Tabaghua, while inactive, was first appointed official challenger for then EU champ Luciano Abis and later the IBF nominated Karlo as official challenger for a fight for the IBF I/C title against Joshua Okine – another fight that didn´t materialize.

Tabaghua is now ready to return though and will have a tune up in the near future and he remains mandatory challenger for EU title now held by Polish veteran Rafael Jackiewicz.
